Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY), is gearing up for the
BMCC Foundation 2016 Gala, “Invest in a Future.” This annual event is scheduled for Monday, June 6, and will be held in the stunning Winter Atrium at Brookfield Place, 225 Liberty Street in Battery Park City. This year’s Honorees are Don Callahan, Head of Operations & Technology, Citi, and Garrett Moran, President, Year Up. Proceeds from the event benefit the BMCC Scholarship Fund.
"The annual
BMCC Foundation Scholarship Gala is an important tradition at our college that brings together members of the BMCC community, business leaders and others who share a commitment to providing scholarships to our deserving students, most of whom are the first in their families to attend college. These scholarship recipients then go on to create careers and contribute to the growth of our City and nation,” said Doris Holz, BMCC’s Vice President of Development.
Last year’s Gala, held May 14, 2015 in Cipriani at 25 Broadway in Lower Manhattan, raised $1,113,000 in funds for student scholarships. Close to 500 guests celebrated alongside BMCC President Antonio Pérez, who presented the BMCC Award of Excellence to Special Guest Star Honoree, Emmy®- and Tony®-Award winning comedian, actor, producer, writer and director Billy Crystal. The Gala also featured Honorees Marianne Brown, Sungard Financial Systems COO, and SL Green Realty Corp CEO Marc Holliday. CBS anchor and reporter Cindy Hsu emceed the event.
Other past
Gala Honorees have included film legend Robert De Niro, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, as the evening’s Special Guest Star Honoree. Long-time friend of BMCC and former BMCC Foundation board president Elizabeth Margaritas Butson was an Honoree as was Kurt Woetzel, President of BNY Mellon Markets Group.
Each year, proceeds from the Gala provide scholarships to hundreds of high-achieving students facing economic challenges to staying in school and focusing on their studies.
